Supercomputer Watson, named after IBM founder Thomas Watson, tried on many different roles. He was a culinary expert, a sales consultant, he studied our tweets and even took part in a quiz show where he won 1 million dollars, taking first place. But its creators have always had much more ambitious plans. For example, to make Watson the most experienced and effective consultant in the field of health.
In November last year, we already told you about IBM's plans for Watson's participation in the processing of diagnostic information and genetic data collected from thousands of patients. Well, the project is actively developing, and a supercomputer can really very soon determine what a particular person is sick and what needs to be done to heal it. Is not this the dream of humanity? Accurate diagnoses and the most effective treatment plan with a minimum chance of medical error.
In the market there are more and more personal gadgets like fitness trackers and smart watches, equipped with a number of sensors for reading the basic vital indicators. The IBM Watson Health project managers want you to allow them to collect data about your physical condition and send them to the special cloud service Watson Health Cloud. The supercomputer will carefully analyze a huge array of data, studying humanity, its diseases, various trends in changing certain indicators, and draw the appropriate conclusions that thousands of doctors will be able to understand.
IBM is currently concluding agreements with the largest manufacturers of portable electronics, so that consumers of their gadgets can share valuable information with Watson. If you are planning to purchase Apple Watch and want to support this project, you just need to allow HealthKit and ResearchKit applications to send data about your status to the cloud storage. In addition to electronics manufacturers, companies such as Jonson & Jonson and Medtronic announced their participation in the program.
It is still difficult to say what all this will result in the future. But let's hope that sooner or later any doctor can simply enter into the computer a list of his patient's symptoms and get the most probable diagnosis with a detailed description of the treatment plan.
