China is building a new, fastest supercomputer in the world

At present, perhaps, every manufacturer is trying to stand out against the background of others in order to take a leading place among the best representatives of the digital age. So Tianhe-2 - a supercomputer originally from China - is going to make this country the most high-tech in the world (at least in the field of production of supercomputers), removing the title from the leader Cray Titan.

Professor Jack Dongarra from the University of Tennessee, after visiting his overseas colleagues, came back and reported that the computational power of the Tianhe-2 supercomputer is 30.7 petaflops per second. This may seem like a fantasy, but Tianhe-2 is superior to the American Cray Titan, whose performance is “only” 17.6 petaflops, almost doubled.

Tianhe-2 has not yet been officially tested, but many scientists are already confident that Tianhe-2 will take the top line of the Top 500 list, which presents the fastest existing supercomputers (at least in our Solar System). The official announcement of the system is scheduled for the next week during the International Supercomputing Conference event.

China has already been in the first place in this list. For example, in 2010, this position was occupied by the Tianhe-1 supercomputer. However, in November last year, the United States introduced its supercomputer, which selected the title of the fastest of the currently existing computer systems.

The launch of the Chinese supercomputer Tianhe-2 at the National Supercomputer Center will be held by the end of this year. The supersystem will be engaged in simulating flight simulator tests and operations related to state security.
