Open operating system Google Chrome OS, designed for netbooks, from time to time appears in systems with a compact form factor like Samsung Chromebox. LG went a little different way by releasing the Chromebase monoblock, slightly similar to the iMac.
Technically, the Chromebase is a low-level device, even by the standards of the Chromebook. It is the same as the Acer Chromebook C7, runs on an Intel Celeron processor and comes with 2 GB of RAM. Although this one-piece is suitable for many undemanding users, an additional 2 GB would definitely not hurt him. Fans of opening a large number of tabs in Chrome know firsthand about the usefulness of additional RAM.
Monoblock is equipped with a 21.5-inch IPS-display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD). Instead of a hard drive, Chromebase uses a 16 GB SSD drive, so the user can count on silent operation and fast system boot. Stereo speakers with a power of 5 W are responsible for sound, and a 1.3 megapixel camera located in the upper part of the frame is responsible for video communication.
The device also has an HDMI input, an Ethernet connector, one USB 3.0 port and three USB 2.0. Wi-Fi support is not specified, but it is hard to imagine that a large OEM could release a candy bar without a Wi-Fi module.
Price is another thing LG did not mention.
The novelty is dedicated to the international consumer electronics exhibition CES 2014, which next month (January 7-10) will be held in Las Vegas.
