Researchers suggest using pictures as a password

Researchers from Plymouth University have developed a new method of password protection, which can significantly improve security. The method called GOTPass combines templates, images and one-time passwords - this system promises to be safer and easier to remember than traditional passwords.

GOTPass requires customization before the first use: the user should draw a template on a 4 × 4 grid - approximately the way Android users unlock their phones. After selecting a template, the user will have to select four of 120 random icons, similar to emoji emoticons.

When it comes time to enter the password, the process is fairly simple: the user enters his name, then draws a template to unlock. After that, 16 icons are displayed to him (of which 14 are random and 2 are selected from the user during the installation of the system). When the user selects 2 correct icons, he receives a one-time password to log in.

This all sounds terribly difficult, but in fact the whole process takes no more time than entering a normal password. The development team claims that their method is very easy to remember and at the same time provides very reliable protection against hacking.
