We have repeatedly told you about the robot Pepper, created by the efforts of SoftBank and Aldebaran Electronics. Also, you've probably heard about the Watson supercomputer, developed by IBM specialists. Pepper was originally designed to communicate with people in a language they understand and to be helpful in a variety of areas. The developers of the robot plan to use the power of Watson supercomputer in order to make their offspring even more like a real person in communication.
"Today, the power of cognitive computing can take almost any form. Our cooperation with SoftBank Robotics Holdings in the work on the Pepper robot will expand their audience, as well as demonstrate the power of the Watson computer, "said Watson development manager Mike Rodin.
Both companies are equally interested in developing each other. IBM has an incredibly powerful platform that can handle huge amounts of data and act as a consultant in a variety of areas, and SoftBank has a convenient shell in the form of a friendly Pepper robot that can work as a nurse in a hospital, a museum guide and even a teacher at school. Until this day, the robot used its own cloud artificial intelligence, developed by its creators, but they decided that this was not enough to ensure that Pepper met all the requirements imposed on it.
Time will tell what will come of this unusual collaboration. In the meantime, one can only hope that one day the army of robots Pepper will not try to seize power on Earth.
