Intel plans to release solid-state drives on 3D XPoint memory became known last year. The peculiarity of this memory is the way of placing information on it, which is similar to the principle of recording optical disks with the only difference that cells are affected not by a laser, but by a current.
Start production was planned already in the first quarter of this year, for which the relevant negotiations were held with the company Micron, in the factories where they planned to manufacture the drives. But the production is completely new, new technologies and materials are used in it, therefore, despite seemingly ideal calculations, the launch had to be postponed.
The Internet began to appear cautious doubts that new drives will appear before the end of the year, but recently on the Taiwan site benchlife.info there was information about fresh rumors from the camp of Intel, according to which by the end of 2016 the company will begin shipping two lines of new SSDs.
One is for workstations, the second is for personal computers and enthusiasts. In the first case, emphasis will be placed on volume and reliability, which will necessarily affect the price, the home option will be more affordable for the mass consumer, but the capacity will be less.
In 2017, expensive models will use the PCI Express 3.0 interface, the company next year will make a line of Optane Brighton Beach, the bandwidth of the models which will be two times lower, they will be released in the form factor M.2.
