At the beginning of this year, in 2018, some Intel processors found a vulnerability that allowed attackers to steal data from the user, which are processed in the processor. Immediately representatives of Intel said that they will work on "patches", which will correct the omission. However, it was recently announced that not all processors could become safe.
According to Intel, owners of Sandy Bridge and newer systems will receive the promised updates from the vulnerabilities discovered at the beginning of the year Meltdown and Specter, but the creation of patches for processors older than seven years is not expected.
It's worth recalling that Meltdown and Specter hit not only Intel chips, but also some AMD products. At the moment, Intel has already released patches for the Broadwell, Haswell, Skylake, Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake models. But 45-nanometer Core chips of the first and second generations will not be updated anymore. Earlier, they received some corrections, but more corrections can not wait. This change of course Intel explains as follows:
"Most of the old products are implemented as closed systems, and therefore less vulnerable to detected vulnerabilities. In addition, the restriction on the release of software updates is due to the fact that infection of the Specter is unlikely because of the microarchitectural characteristics of the old chips. "
