Hewlett-Packard announced the Envy X2 hybrid laptop tablet based on the Windows 8 operating system, signaling its return to the tablet market, which the company decided to leave after the failure of the TouchPad.
Externally, the HP Envy X2 looks like a netbook with an added keyboard and a 11.6-inch touchscreen display. Separate the display from the keyboard and you get a full-fledged tablet computer. The advantage of a hybrid device can be considered that it embodies the experience of two worlds of Windows 8, which is equally suitable for tablets and personal computers. According to the manufacturer, the Envy X2 has a body thickness of 8.5 mm and a weight of 680 g, and the screen resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels.
The hybrid runs on a low-power Intel Atom processor, codenamed Clover Trail. The mobile device will be supplied complete with a docking station in the form of a keyboard and an integrated solid-state drive with a capacity of 64 GB. It is reported that HP Envy X2 will go on sale during the high season of the Christmas holidays and will be a real competition for Asus, Acer, Lenovo and Samsung hybrid solutions.
Despite the fact that the device can fully function without a keyboard, Hewlett-Packard, in the first place, considers it as a laptop. The docking station is equipped with an SD card slot, multiple USB ports and a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) connector. HP Envy X2 has two batteries - one in the tablet and the other in the keyboard. Offline time in the "laptop" mode exceeds eight hours. Additionally, there is an NFC-module, a front-facing high-definition webcam, a rear 8.0-megapixel camera and a stylus.
