Last November, sales of the budget 6-inch reader PocketBook Basic began. For the entire existence of the model, about 150 thousand copies have been sold, this is a very good circulation. Now the leader of the Russian market of devices for reading electronic books, the PocketBook company (a share of more than 30%) has presented an updated model - PocketBook Basic New. The novelty has received a more ergonomic case and optimized software (due to which the work speed has improved) and, in return, lost its Wi-Fi wireless adapter.
Externally, PocketBook Basic New is similar to its predecessor. The shape of the keys has changed slightly, which, in our opinion, has a positive effect on usability. Also noteworthy is a special perforated pattern on the back of the device, thanks to which the reader lies well in the hand and does not slip. By the way, the case of the model is made of plastic, the choice of two color options - white and gray. All connectors and additional keys are located on the bottom, these are the power and reset buttons, a slot for a microSD card and a microUSB port. The device weighs 180 g, and its thickness is 9.7 mm. Build PocketBook Basic New take place in the factories of the notorious company Foxconn, which also assembles devices for Apple. PocketBook Basic New is equipped with a 6-inch display with a resolution of 600 by 800 pixels. The image quality is quite good - the background is white, the text is clear, in general, everything is very good. As we have said, this model uses new optimized software. By the way, the interface is somewhat similar to the one used in the flagship model PocketBook Touch. The novelty is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 1000 mAh. One charge is enough to turn around 8,000 pages.
The hardware of the PocketBook Basic New has not changed - it is a 800-megahertz Freescale processor and 128 MB of RAM. This is quite enough for the gadget to be called one of the fastest. The amount of built-in flash memory is 2 GB, it is possible to expand the cards microS). PocketBook Basic New reads most popular text document formats: EPUB (ADOBE DRM), PDF (ADOBE DRM), EPUB, PDF, TXT, DJVU, RTF, HTM, HTML, CHM, DOC, DOCX, TCR, FB2, FB2.ZIP and PRC (Mobi). Also, the gadget recognizes graphic files (JPEG, BMP, PNG and TIFF), but unfortunately there is no audio player here. PocketBook Basic New made a very good impression on us. The device is quite smart, high-quality and inexpensive - 4 990 rubles. The same PocketBook Basic is a bit more expensive (5,490 rubles). Therefore, you need to decide what is more important - convenience and speed (in the first case) or the presence of a Wi-Fi module (in the second).
