Toshiba Windows 8 computers will get their own Start menu

Toshiba has announced the launch of pre-orders for computers based on Windows 8. Customers of Japanese brand products will receive for personal use the Start screen alternative program (Start menu) of the Modern user interface.

Unlike Samsung, which will provide its Windows 8 products with the optional S Launcher application, Toshiba Desktop Assist will be installed on all Toshiba Windows 8 computers by default. According to Toshiba, this utility will provide users with convenient access to personal programs, control panels, as well as files and folders. In previous versions of Windows, these functions were performed by the standard Start menu.

In addition to Toshiba Desktop Assist, users of Toshiba Windows 8 computers will be available with three other pre-installed applications, such as Toshiba Central (access to user manuals, information support, training video and other options), Toshiba Book Place (online bookstore) and Toshiba News Place ( news aggregator).

Pre-orders are already being taken on laptops, all-in-one computers and Toshiba’s hybrid solutions based on the Windows 8 system, such as the Toshiba Satellite U925T (shown in the photo above). Deliveries of computers will begin on the 26th.
