However, instead of the previously anticipated announcement of the Steam Box, the company announced plans to create Steam Machines - a new class of powerful gaming devices for the living room. Devices that allow players to independently choose the desired configuration of equipment, which will be available in 2014.

Valve announced the launch of a closed beta test of prototypes, which she herself has developed. In total, this year the company will be able to supply only 300 such devices. But as we have said, Valve does not just want to create a game console / computer based on SteamOS with deep integration of the Steam store: she, like Google, wants to provide a base for various developers for their own solutions.

"Starting in 2014, various devices with SteamOS, created by different manufacturers, will appear on the market," is written on the Steam website.

So, anyone who wants to take part in the closed beta test of the prototype gaming device from Valve, must fulfill a number of requirements. Namely:

• Join to group Steam Universe;
• To accept Steam Device Beta Test Agreement ;
• Add 10 friends to Steam (if you don’t have them yet);
• Create a public profile in the Steam community (if you have not already created);
• Play any game using the controller in the mode Big picture .

Please note that the reception of applications is very limited (the device will test only the three hundred lucky ones) and will be closed on October 25 of this year.

“You can fulfill these requirements in any order. After all the requirements are met, you will be given a special badge, and you will be officially listed in the list, from which we will select the beta test participants / recipients of our devices, ”explains the Steam website.

“There are no universal solutions in the entertainment world. We want to give you the opportunity to choose the device that suits you personally. Therefore, we work with several partners so that in 2014 a range of gaming devices with the SteamOS operating system would be available on the market. ”
