A service will soon appear that will offer people to create their own “virtual copies” and allow relatives to communicate with this person even after his death. As conceived by Eterni.me (the company that will offer this service), a huge database of his life, habits, manners, favorite interests and so on will be collected about the person while he is alive. Based on all these data, the company will create a virtual avatar of this person. The creators describe their service as "Skype communication from the past."
The idea of recreating the virtual identity of a deceased person is far from new. Perhaps one of the most illustrative and vivid examples of this is the concept, which was shown in one of the Black Mirror television series by producer and screenwriter Charlie Brucker, thanks to which the filmmakers wanted to ask the audience what they thought about this technology. and what consequences it can lead to. By the way, one more example of such a technology will be described in the upcoming movie “Transcendence”, which received the name “Superiority” in Russian hire. The lawnmower comes to mind from the classics.

“We understand very well the emotional side of the issue associated with the death of a loved one,” said Marius Ursace, executive director of Eterni.me.
“It is really important for us to emphasize that we don’t want to use in our work memories of ordinary banal things that happened to a person. We want to create a heritage technology that would allow the grandchildren to communicate with the departed grandfather, whom they loved immensely and with whom they often spent time together. ”
Ursache indicates that Eterni.me has already received a huge amount of feedback and suggestions, and also reports that they will continue to collect people's opinions about the work of this service.
“We are seriously considering the questions of skeptical people towards this technology and we will try, taking into account all the flaws and mistakes, to create and only improve our product in the future,” continues the CEO of Eterni.me.
Service development has been part of the MIT's Entrepreneurship Development Program. After registering and signing the necessary agreements, the person will be asked to provide links and access to all the social services he uses (Facebook, Twitter), his email, photos, as well as the history of his visits to various places in the world. After collecting all the necessary information, you will need to perform two basic tasks: create a psychological virtual portrait or entity based on these data, and then “emulate” a person based on this.
“I don’t argue that the creation of a psychological portrait and emulation is now at one of the most primitive levels of development,” continues Ursace.
“But by periodically communicating with the received avatar, a person who will live for another 30-40 years will be able to adjust his virtual psychological portrait in such a way so that he becomes more consistent with his own“ I.
For Eterni.me, creating an “entity” based on the data collected is a key, but at the same time, the most difficult issue that a company will have to solve. Ideally, you should have a service that will analyze both textual and visual information in order to have the opportunity to create an avatar and emulate a person inside it. Direct user interaction will make this emulation more accurate.
Ursache explains that the key task of the company is to create a tool that people can use to learn more about their ancestors, about the moments that will describe a particular photo taken during a person’s life, family activities, and habits and hobby of one or another person. Ursache tries to show that this technology is very similar to the function of a kind of search, only it is designed to search for a particular moment in a person’s life.
“I believe that technology is designed to make our lives easier. At least in some aspects, ”says the developer Eterni.me.
“If technology can help us determine our heritage, or solve our problems, or problems that were related to a relative or friend who has left us, for example, in matters of inheritance or access to this or that information, we must definitely find ways and opportunities to use such technologies. But at the same time without creating additional problems and not hurting people alive. ”
Private beta testing of the Eterni.me service is expected to begin at the end of 2015. If everything goes according to the company's plan, then public access to this service will be opened in 2016.
