China has the most powerful supercomputer in the world

In China, a new supercomputer was developed, which, apparently, is currently the most powerful on the planet. It was named Sunway TaihuLight and replaced in the world leaderboard another Chinese supercomputer, now descended to second place. Yes, the previous leader among supercomputers was also created in China, but it was equipped with processors from the American company Intel, the newcomer is created using the newest chips developed in China, the inhabitants of the Middle Kingdom can rightly be proud of the first domestic supercomputer.

The performance of the supercomputer is 93 petaflops, which means that it can perform 93 quadrillion calculations per second, and 10.65 million cores of Chinese technology miracle are caused by the Titan system Cray Xk7, the most powerful supercomputer in the US, in which the nucleus is only 560 000, feel awkwardly. However, Titan is on the third place in the ranking, in which there are as many as 500 supercomputers from around the world. Nevertheless, the new Sunway TaihuLight gives out as much as 16% of their total capacity. Despite its impressive capabilities, the computer also consumes little energy. Usually a lot of energy is consumed by the RAM, but TaihuLight uses much less RAM for computations than its counterparts.

Simultaneously with the advent of TaihuLight, China took the leading place in the number of supercomputers. In China there are 167 of them, in the US there are 165 computers designated in the rating. As for Russian supercomputers, only seven of them were in the TOP500 rating, the most powerful of them is Lomonosov-2 from Moscow State University, it occupies 41 positions.
