Artificial intelligence can not read comic books

Researchers from the University of Maryland found that an ordinary comic can introduce artificial intelligence into a stupor. Mohit Iyer with a team of specialists decided to do the necessary and important thing - to introduce artificial intelligence with comics, and at the same time to find out whether the program will get to understand all these pictures and text, comparing them with each other in the right order.

To do this, scientists scanned about four thousand different comic magazines, making a large library, which includes more than a million individual images. The text from the pictures was also digitized, so that the AI could make it easier to understand the stories. After that, the program showed different pictures, and she had to guess what would happen next, comparing the pictures and fragments of the text.

It turned out that the artificial intelligence is beyond the power: image recognition algorithms could not figure out the pictures because the styles of drawing were different, the images themselves were very much, and the text in the pictures was inextricably linked to what or who on them so the program could not cope with the task. Soon after the testing began, artificial intelligence became confused, showing record low results. Apparently, lack of imaginative thinking.
