A new Chinese supercomputer will be able to perform a quintillion operations per second

In the summer of this year, Chinese experts have already created the world's most powerful supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight, whose performance is 93 petaflops. The machine is capable of performing 93 quadrillion calculations per second thanks to a 10.65 million cores. But China is not going to stop there, because computing power is not superfluous, so the Chinese State Center for Supercomputing Computing, together with the National University of Defense Science and Technology, has begun developing a prototype of a new generation supercomputer. The press service of the center reports that the future computer will be able to perform a quintillion operations per second.

A super-powerful computer plays an important role in promoting scientific and technological innovation and the development of various industries. Prior to this, the development of a new generation supercomputer has already begun in the United States, Japan and the EU, their goal is to build a computer by 2020 that will be able to perform a quintillion operations per second, the Xinhua news agency quotes the representative of the National University of Defense Science and Technology.

The first supercomputer appeared in China six years ago, it is called Tianhe-1 and performs a quadrillion calculations per second. He works even now, performing various tasks related to biopharmaceuticals, equipment manufacturing, oil exploration and many others. Every day it carries out more than 1400 tasks, and its services are constantly used by more than a thousand customers.
