Intel and AMD have teamed up to create better integrated graphics for PC

As we all know, over the years, AMD and Intel have been quite serious rivals in the field of creating microprocessors for desktop computers. But when it comes to notebook processors, Intel has always been in control, and AMD has been modest in this sector. And here the proverb "enemy of my enemy is my friend" comes to mind, for only in this way can it be possible to explain the merger of two companies against a common enemy, NVIDIA, in an attempt to create the best solution for integrated laptop graphics.

AMD offered Intel to use Radeon graphics technology in new Core-i7 processors, as well as to integrate HBM2 memory (memory with increased data throughput) into processors. At the output we get a powerful CPU from Intel, a high-quality integrated video system from AMD, as well as fast memory integrated into the same chip. This design was called EMIB (Embedded Multi-die Interconnect Bridge), and it provides an incredibly fast transmission of digital signals at short distances between all the components of the processor.

The advantages of this technology are undeniable. I think that many will agree that integrated graphics from Intel in recent years left much to be desired. And the next generation processor will not only provide the best graphics component for games and applications, but also suitable for very compact laptops and ultrabooks. After all, they will not need a separate video card. If you believe the specialists of Digital Foundry, the future video system will include 24 computing units and 1536 stream processors, operating at a frequency of 1 to 1.1 GHz. This will provide a notebook with a graphics card capacity of 3.3 teraflops, which, for a second, puts this integrated GPU on a par with the NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti.

While Intel and AMD are not in a hurry to disclose to the world all their trump cards, but one thing becomes clear right now: if this tandem really shows its best, NVIDIA engineers will have a very hard time in the laptop market. We will closely follow the development of this story and, as soon as new details appear, we will certainly inform our readers about them.
