Chinese scientists have set themselves a new ambitious task: to complete the development of the Tianhe-3 supercomputer by 2020, whose computing power can reach a quintillion operations per second, the website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences reports.
Quintillion operations per second - this is a lot, and now in any country in any country there are not so fast supercomputers. China continues to lead in the race of supercomputers, creating very powerful cars faster than all and overtaking Japan and the United States. Most importantly, supercomputers are always used in various industries. So, released a few years ago, Tianhe-1 serves 1600 research teams from different cities and helps to conduct 1200 innovative Chinese projects, simultaneously helping to create medicines, forecasting weather and performing other important tasks.
Despite the US ban on the export of chips for Chinese supercomputers, the Chinese were soon able to create their own chips, so the increase in supercomputer capacity continues, and since there is no need to supply foreign components, supercomputers are built much faster. In 2018, Sunway Exascale is going to be put into operation, which will replace the fastest computer in the Middle Kingdom Sunway TaihuLight.
Now China accounts for the largest number of supercomputers - 202.
