The development of a Russian quantum computer will be invested 900 million rubles

The consortium of Vnesheconombank, the VEB Innovation Company, the Foundation for Advanced Studies (FPI), the Lomonosov Moscow State University and the ANO Digital Economy will invest 900 million rubles in the project of a super-powerful quantum computer in the next five years, the Izvestiya newspaper writes directions of information research FPI Sergei Garbuk.

Garbuk also said that in parallel with the development will be created and new algorithms for solving specific problems.

The creation of quantum algorithms will allow us to speak about a fundamentally new quality of solving such problems of great computational complexity, such as modeling human intellectual abilities, optimal distribution of transport and logistic flows, weather forecasting and others, "Garbuk quotes Izvestia.

The agreement on the creation of a 50-kilobit quantum computer in Russia Vnesheconombank, the Foundation for Advanced Studies, VEB Innovations, Moscow State University and the ANO Digital Economy signed on February 15 at the Sochi-2018 Russian Investment Forum.

According to this document, the parties will jointly implement a comprehensive scientific and technical project to create a multi-bit optical quantum simulator based on photonic chips and neutral atoms, and develop the necessary research and technological infrastructure. Within the framework of cooperation it is supposed to hold consultations, working meetings and other events, during which the parties will jointly put and solve applied problems in the field of quantum technologies.

Oleg Astafiev, head of the laboratory of artificial quantum systems at MIPT, said that a working system of 50 qubits can be created in five years, as this area of ​​knowledge is developing very dynamically. The implementation of the project will significantly speed up the calculations and solve problems that are too complex for modern supercomputers.
