Disable auto-update of Windows 10? To jail!

The operating system Windows 10 has many different functions and capabilities, which sometimes can be very difficult to understand. However, users of this operating system note that one of its main disadvantages is the forced download of all updates and their subsequent installation on the computer. Even manual tuning does not help. If the function is disabled, the next time you restart the computer, it will turn on again, the updates will continue to be downloaded to the internal drive, and then automatically installed. Many people do not like this. But Microsoft has its own view on this matter.

One user of Windows 10 from Russia decided to take an interest in the official Microsoft forum on how to completely turn off the function "Automatic update". The fact is that people use a small capacity drive (32 GB), and most of its volume is already occupied by operating system files. One of the official community moderators responded that it is absolutely impossible to do this, because because of this, Microsoft can file a legal claim against the user (legal user).

The moderator under the nickname Grand_Ross replied that the disabling of the automatic updating function in the Windows 10 operating system is a direct violation of two Russian laws - articles 1229 and 1235 of the Federal Law 230-FZ "Civil Code of the Russian Federation". A Microsoft employee said that the forced refusal of auto-updates is qualified by the Russian legislation as illegal use of software and, therefore, can have very specific legal consequences.

In other words, Microsoft can sue absolutely any user of the Windows 10 operating system in Russia for disabling the auto-update feature. The employee of the company said that for this violation it is possible to incur not only administrative, but also criminal liability, provided by the current legislation of the Russian Federation. This is article 146 "Violation of copyright and related rights" of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for imprisonment for up to six years and a fine of up to 1 million rubles.

Another moderator supported his colleague and provided additional information in which he specified that when the user starts using Windows 10, the user automatically agrees with the license agreement, one of the points of which clearly states the following:

"By accepting the terms of this agreement, you agree to receive automatic updates of this type without any additional notice."

Thus, disabling the auto-update feature is strictly prohibited, and all those who do this contrary to what is written in the license agreement will immediately violate two Russian laws at once. The official representative of Microsoft added that the only way to stop receiving auto-updates is to stop using Windows 10.
