AMD officially introduced the second generation of Ryzen processors

AMD officially introduced the second generation of Ryzen processors. Novelties offer increased frequencies, support for a new chipset, as well as technology for accelerating AMD StoreMI drives. At the start of sales, the line will include four new models: two eight-core - Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 7 2700, and a pair of six-core - Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 5 2600.

Ryzen 5/7 2xxx will be the first processors to be manufactured using a 12-nanometer process technology, and also use the improved Zen + architecture.

Improved technological standards allowed to increase CPU clock speeds. The older model Ryzen 7 2700X received frequencies 3.7 / 4.3 (in Turbo Core) GHz, while the same-named version of the previous generation Ryzen 7 1700X was satisfied with a more modest 3.4 / 3.8 GHz. Even the flagship model Ryzen 7 1800X of the previous generation could not boast of such indicators. The frequencies of the older model were 3.6 / 4.0 GHz, respectively. The manufacturer on average 200-400 MHz increased the operating frequencies for other models of the line.

"At the request of workers," AMD decided to bundle all the new generation processors with the regular air cooling systems Wraith. However, their type will depend on the particular processor model. For example, the older model Ryzen 7 2700X will be supplied with the new Wraith Prism, the Ryzen 7 2700 and Ryzen 5 2600X models will receive Wraith Spire, and the Ryzen 5 2600 will be offered with a simpler cooler Wraith Stealth.

The new processors will work on the Socket AM4 platform, thereby maintaining compatibility with the already offered motherboards on the market, although to update the new chips will have to update the BIOS. In addition, AMD has announced a new chipset AMD X470, which promises expanded opportunities for the disclosure of the potential of Pinnacle Ridge processors.

In addition to the new processor, AMD also announced a new technology AMD StoreMI, which, apparently, will allow caching data on the SSD to speed boot from hard drives.

The manufacturer has already announced the prices of new chips. The recommended price for Ryzen 7 2700X is $ 329, Ryzen $ 7,200 - $ 299, Ryzen 5 2600X will be released for $ 229, and for Ryzen 5 2,600 AMD wants $ 199. Prices should be understood for the western market. In the Russian retail of such generous offers buyers precisely will not see. At least the first time after the start of sales, which starts on April 19.
